Expecting

Congratulations!
Having a baby is one of the most exciting times in your life. Nothing is more rewarding than the privilege of caring for this new life and providing an environment in which both you and your child will thrive and develop. Choosing the pediatrician that can best care for your child is an important decision. At Amherst Pediatric Associates we share your joy and enthusiasm and look forward to the opportunity in partnering with you on the exciting journey of raising a child.

Breatfeeding friendly facility!

As of September 2016, we are excited to announce that we are a Certified breastfeeding friendly facility! We are so lucky to now have 3 wonderful lactation consultants available in our office! Please come and see Cathy, Courtney or Emily for all of your breastfeeding needs!

Getting Acquainted

Please feel free to call our office if you have additional questions about us. Or, if you prefer, we offer a prenatal "meet and greet" class at 5pm on the second Wednesday of every month. If you are interested in attending one of these classes please call us to register at (716)632-8050.  At this class you will have the opportunity to see our facility and meet some of our staff and providers.

Upon Arrival

When your baby is born at an affiliated hospital, simply tell your obstetrician and the hospital staff that you have chosen Amherst Pediatric Associates as your child's pediatrician. Our office will be notified of your baby's birth by the hospital staff and one of our physicians will come to the hospital to complete your baby's first checkup. Upon discharge, one of our nurses will contact you to schedule your baby's first in office appointment.  Should you deliver at any hospital that we do not round at please contact our office once you have been discharged to schedule your baby's first visit.  Affiliated Hospitals: Oishei Children's Hospital (until 9/30/23), Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and Sister of Charity Hospital Buffalo.

First Office Visit

The first in office checkup of a newborn baby is within the first week of age. This visit is primarily meant to confirm the normality of the baby and to ascertain the degree of success the mother is having in caring for the newborn at home. At this visit we like to get acquainted with any caregiver who will be participating in the child's care as well as obtaining detailed family and social history. Also, before coming in for the first visit, please take time to check your medical insurance coverage for your baby.

Weight Checks

Weight checks are typical for newborn babies whether they are breast or bottle fed. During the first month of life, we monitor babies very closely for adequate nutrition and weight gain. Weight checks may be scheduled with one of our lactation consultants, physicians or nurse practitioners. Our lactation consultants are trained to assess for proper weight gain and nutrition as well as offering support and advice in the early days of breastfeeding.
